Working prototype for converting Scratch games to run on an Arduino #9972
I have been taking an interest in computer hardware and I have been teaching a class about building DIY video game consoles using Arduino boards and the open source Arduboy schematic. I am hoping to create a follow up class about programming games, and I thought Scratch would be a good platform to work off of, as I'd like to keep the class accessible to people new to programming, just as the hardware class is friendly for total newbies.
I have an initial working prototype of a conversion script that can take a Scratch game and convert it into an Arduino C++ project.
I made a post over in the Arduboy forum about this, and you can see on that page the converted game running in the simulator, it also runs fine on the Arudino hardware.
Hey! I'm not a maintainer here or anything, I just came here to check some stuff out. But I'm not sure if this is the right place for this.
This is the repository for scratch-gui, the frontend for Scratch, which is written in ReactJS, and the place you posted this is the Issues tab for the repository, which is for, well, issues! Plus, not many people from the actual scratch community read this, as, again, is meant for the developers to find issues with the platform.
I reccommend you post this in the scratch forums instead: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss
Hey @supervoidcoder, I did make a post in the scratch forums, there is lots of activity there, so things quickly fall out of the new page. I'll be posting updates there as I make progress on the project to periodically bump the thread and hopefully more people might see it and I might find some interested scratchers.
I do know what this repo is for, and I did see that development has migrated to a monorepo. I posted here somewhat intentionally to see if I might be able to get the project in front of the scratch core team. I saw that the microsoft scratch competitor MakeCode arcade has a focus on compatibility with a series of hardware vendors that sell kits or ready made gaming consoles that can play the games.
I like that Scratch is driven by a non-profit, and I wanted to see if showing something like this might get the devs or core organization excited about expanding Scratch in this direction. My attempt to reach them from their contact form didn't bear fruit yet, so I thought I'd try to reach them in another forum. Some projects turn on the discussion feature for github repos that can serve as a place to make proposal for features or larger project meta-discussions, but I didn't see that enabled for this or the other repos involved in the project.
