The Nix release consumer check in #510 fails because nix/release.nix still pinned nightly-2026-09-26-d6267b4, while 0.25.0 was built with nightly-2026-10-09-258ab27. The older compiler rejects the 0.25.0 sources (Locale.roc:318:17 not a function, OsStr.roc/Path.roc arity errors).

  • The compiler pin now lives in nix/release.json (compiler), so it is updated together with the release bundle.
  • scripts/update_nix_release.py writes it, defaulting to the devshell nightly in flake.nix (--compiler overrides).
  • release.json is set to nightly-2026-10-09-258ab27.

Not verified locally (no Nix on this machine); the Nix release consumer CI job is the check.

The Nix release consumer compiled basic-cli 0.25.0 with the stale
nightly-2026-09-26-d6267b4 pin in nix/release.nix, giving:
Locale.roc:318:17 not a function ... This value is not a function, but it was given 1 argument.

Record the compiler in nix/release.json instead, written by
update_nix_release.py from the devshell nightly, so a release follow-up
cannot leave it behind. Set it to nightly-2026-10-09-258ab27, which
built 0.25.0.
