Local agents can publish a static site with viewer API access, but no skill says how the page's JavaScript talks to Deepnote, so an agent guesses, embeds an API key, or stops. This revives #11 on the current skill layout.

  • New deepnote-dynamic-apps skill: the hosted client at /static/app-client/v1.js and window.Deepnote.connect(), TypeScript declarations, what a viewer token can reach, returning a JSON result, reading a dataframe output in JavaScript, an authoring workflow, and the failures a page should handle.
  • deepnote-runs: a Dataframe Outputs section, the one place that says rows hold one page (10 by default) while row_count is the total, and how pandas values are encoded. Snapshot Delivery now mentions the 16,384-character cap on block outputs and fullOutputs.
  • deepnote-notebooks: set deepnote_table_state.pageSize when creating a block. update_block cannot change it, and a code block without one inherits the table state set before it.
  • deepnote-mcp: fullOutputs in the get_run entry. deepnote-static-sites: points to the new skill. README, manifests: a capability line, a prompt, and the plugin bumped to 0.7.0.

CodeRabbit findings on #11

  1. Missing window.Deepnote declarations: the declarations now include Window.Deepnote with connect() and notebook(), and type-check under strict together with the JavaScript example.
  2. Date-range values: the declaration keeps the client's own string | boolean | string[]. A page learns each input's type from inputs() at run time, so a static type cannot tell a date-range input from a multi-select one. The per-type rules stay in one place, Run Inputs in deepnote-runs.
  3. Number() on integers past 2^53: the skill now says to keep those values as strings or use BigInt.

Corrections to #11

  • onAuthExpired runs only when the token handshake fails, not when later calls fail.
  • The text/plain and text/html previews show frames of up to 60 rows whole, so they can hold more rows than rows.
  • df.to_dict('records') sends missing numbers as "nan" and fails the block on a missing timestamp, so the example uses to_json.
  • In pandas frames, booleans and nullable integers arrive as strings, and the 2^53 check runs per page. Polars and Spark frames use null.
  • Outputs over 512 KiB, or past 5 MiB per notebook, reach the page as a notice.

How this was checked

  • Each statement about the client and the viewer token was checked against the hosted client and the API's behavior.
  • The value encoding was checked by running the toolkit's dataframe formatter and a real IPython kernel on frames with missing values, booleans, nullable integers, timestamps, infinities, and integers past 2^53. The Python example was run as written.
  • claude plugin validate --strict passes for both manifests.
  • Not checked yet: a page on deepnote.com built by an agent from this skill. That end-to-end run should happen before this leaves draft.

The same content for CLI users, in the deepnote install-skills skill: deepnote/deepnote#553.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added guidance for publishing dashboard pages that run project notebooks for signed-in viewers and display notebook results.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified how notebook runs handle authentication, outputs, timeouts, sharing, and safety.
    • Expanded guidance on output-size limits, full output delivery, and dataframe pagination and previews.
    • Directed browser-based notebook experiences to the appropriate guide.

…tion

Local agents can publish a static site with viewer API access, but no skill
said how the page's JavaScript talks to Deepnote. deepnote-dynamic-apps covers
the hosted client at /static/app-client/v1.js, what a viewer token can reach,
returning a JSON result, and the failures a page has to handle.

deepnote-runs now defines dataframe outputs once: rows hold one page (10 by
default) while row_count is the total, and how values are encoded on the wire.
deepnote-notebooks explains setting pageSize when creating a block, and the
get_run entry lists fullOutputs, without which a capped block hides row_count.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The README now describes publishing a site that runs project notebooks and includes a dashboard example. A new skill documents browser-based notebook execution and result rendering. Related guidance now covers output size limits, dataframe pagination, and dataframe values. Both plugin manifests update the version to 0.7.0.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to cd45c

Notebook pages using viewer tokens cannot select block delivery or remove the output cap with these options, so they may not receive results as the new guidance promises. The affected path is limited to viewer-token use; update the guidance before users rely on it.

- Omit `snapshotDelivery` for routine status checks. The response then carries `snapshotContent: null` and, when a snapshot exists, a short-lived `snapshotDownloadUrl` to a `.snapshot.deepnote` file. That URL grants access to the snapshot: never paste it into an answer unless the user asks for a download or file handoff, and never fetch it on your own.
- Request `snapshotDelivery: "blocks"` to inspect outputs, summarize results, or diagnose a failure from execution outputs. It returns `snapshotBlocks` with block IDs, types, outputs, and metadata, but no source.
- Request `snapshotDelivery: "blocks"` to inspect outputs, summarize results, or diagnose a failure from execution outputs. It returns `snapshotBlocks` with block IDs, types, outputs, and metadata, but no source. A block whose outputs are longer than 16,384 characters as JSON gets a notice with `outputHead` and `outputTail` in their place; add `fullOutputs: true` to lift that cap when you need the output, such as a dataframe's `row_count`. A block over 512 KiB, or past 5 MiB of outputs in the notebook, still comes back as a notice.

Document the app viewer-token exception.

The documented viewer flow uses app viewer tokens, but the Runs API ignores snapshotDelivery and fullOutputs for those tokens. Callers cannot rely on block delivery or on lifting the 16,384-character cap for larger outputs. (deepnote.com)
