Deployment failure using Helm via Rancher Fleet 0.15 #345
We use Rancher Fleet to deploy applications at scale, including the SentinelOne Agent. Fleet uses Helm to deploy charts and manifests.
After upgrading Rancher to version 2.15.1, our agent deployment breaks. The trigger is in the hooks.uninstallScript define in _helpers.tpl:
echo -e "\n----------------------------------\n";
Fleet pins Helm 4.1.4, which improperly handles strings of 6 or more consecutive dashes (see rancher/fleet#5443 (comment)). The issue was fixed in Helm 4.2, and is fixed in the subsequent Fleet releases, but it may take a while for these to percolate through the supply chain.
Solution
Implement one of the following workarounds in _helpers.tpl:
Use some other character for the ruler such as "=" or "*";
Shorten the string to 5 or less dashes; or
Replace the problematic line with echo -e "\n"$(printf '=%.0s' {1..34})"\n";
